UDU TURKANA

Percussion instrument, half aerophone, half idiophone. 

It comes from the Nigerian Igbo tribe. Originally, they were vessels used by women to transport water. They consider it a religious instrument. The Igbo tribe believed that when it was played, the voices of their ancestors could be heard. 

It is a very deep and interesting instrument. 

The ceramic material used consists of four elements: air, fire, earth and water, allowing a timbre range of high quality natural sounds.

 

The Turkana Udu is characterised by its bass tones.
