Traditional Vietnamese musical instrument. It is made of wood from woo-tung trees. The four strings are tuned in a sequence of fourths-seconds-fourths, for example: C-F-G-C. Some possible left hand techniques are the glissando, the staccato, the arpeggio, and the tremolo. This instrument can be played solo or together with an orchestra. It is also known in Japan by the name of Biwa and in China by the name of Pipa. Although these instruments are related to the Dan Ty Ba, this has its own personality and has earned a place for itself in the traditional Vietnamese orchestra.
